Questions to ask your wedding venue

When searching for your perfect wedding venue, there are certain obvious questions, which must be asked – is the date you would like your wedding to take place available? How much will the ceremony and/or reception cost? Does this cost include food and drink? How many people can you fit in the venue? The list goes on.

However, there are also a number of very important questions, which can be easily forgotten and can also cause some unnecessary stress later on down the line. Therefore, to relieve you of this pressure, we’ve compiled a selection of the ‘not so obvious’ questions to ask your venue before confirming your booking:

How much do we pay, when?

Deposit and payment schedules will vary at each wedding venue. Therefore, it is very important to know exactly how much is due at the time of booking and when the balance is payable. It is also worth checking to see whether there are any possible hidden costs, which may crop up later on.

Must we use the suppliers recommended by the venue?

A lot of wedding venues will have their own recommended suppliers list. Some will insist on you using their suppliers whereas, others will just suggest them as a guideline. If you already know, which photographer, florist or band you would like to use for you wedding, make sure you check that this is okay with your chosen venue.

Are we allowed a band?

Some venues have noise restrictions. Therefore, if you would like to have a live band play at your wedding reception it is key that you double check that this is allowed by your venue.

Do you allow open flames?

Candles are a great way to create a romantic and cosy atmosphere on your wedding day. However, some venues have restrictions on open flames. If you have always dreamt of a candle filled wedding ceremony and reception, make sure you check that your venue doesn’t have any constraints on this.

Do you have a bar and/or can we bring our own alcohol?

Alcohol is an important part of most weddings therefore, a bar is essential. Ensure that you ask your venue whether they have a bar and/or, if you are allowed to take your own alcohol, whether there is a corkage charge.

How early can we get into the venue to set up?

Decorating your venue is very important when it comes to adding your own special, personal touches. Perhaps you have made your own Wedding Favours or want to decorate with Balloons. If you are planning to do this yourself, do check with your venue first to make sure this is possible and then it is essential that you find out when you can access the venue to start the make-over.

Is there enough parking?

The last thing you want on your wedding day is for your guests to be aimlessly driving around trying to find the nearest parking space. If in doubt about the amount of parking available at your venue ask for details of the nearest alternative and provide your guests with a directions/map to avoid any delays.

Who will be in charge of my wedding before and during the day?

A lot of wedding venues have their own wedding co-ordinator to guide you through every step of the wedding planning process. Be sure to find out who will be in charge of the arrangements and who will be on hand on your special day, just in case you have any questions.
